How was the assessment created?

The questions have been created by analysing Ofsted's own assessment of 12 Outstanding Homes (where they identified 16 common areas that Outstanding homes do really well). We have then created the Step By Step Guide To Creating Outstanding Children's Homes by using Ofsted's own findings. We've also used the Social care common inspection framework (SCCIF): children’s homes (10th January 2025), the Children's Homes Regulations (2015) and the Guide to the Children's Homes Regulations (2015).

The Step By Step Guide is formated in the same 16 sections, plus an additional section called 'How well children are helped and protected'. Your personalised RAG rated report (that we also send on email) is laid out in the 17 sections so that you can easily see how to improve in the required areas because you'll be concentrating on the same 17 areas that Ofsted are.
